King Faisal International Prize 2017 in vijf categorieën uitgereikt in Saudi-Arabië
RIYAD, Saudi-Arabië–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The King Faisal Foundation, een internationale filantropische organisatie uit Saudi-Arabië die in 1976 is opgericht om het nalatenschap van koning Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud te behouden en uit te bouwen, heeft de winnaars van het King Faisal International Prize (KFIP) 2017 bekendgemaakt.
De bewaarder van de twee Heilige Moskeeën, koning van Saudi-Arabië Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, won de prijs in de categorie Dienstbaarheid aan de Islam wegens zijn tomeloze inzet voor de twee Heilige Moskeeën van Mekka en Medina. Professor Ridwan Al-Sayyid van de Libanese Universiteit kreeg de onderscheiding in de categorie Islamstudies voor zijn gepubliceerde onderzoek op vlak van het juridisch en politiek erfgoed van de Islam.
De Academie voor Arabische Taal van Jordanië werd unaniem uitgeroepen tot winnaar in de categorie Arabische Taal en Literatuur, op basis van haar voorname inspanningen voor de verspreiding van wetenschappelijke en technologische kennis via vertalingen in het Arabisch. Emeritus hoogleraar Tadamitsu Kishimoto van het Immunology Frontier Research Center van de Universiteit van Osaka in Japan ging naar huis met de prijs in de categorie Geneeskunde voor zijn vooraanstaande rol in de ontwikkeling van nieuwe biologische behandelingen van auto-immuunziektes.
