Race op 22 oktober 2017 van start in Spaanse Alicante

ALICANTE, Spanje–(BUSINESS WIRE)– De editie 2017-18 van de Volvo Ocean Race is van start gegaan in de Spaanse stad Alicante, met HCL Technologies als strategische IT-serviceprovider. Het internationaal toonaangevende bedrijf in IT-services ondersteunt de technologische infrastructuur en voorziet de Race Village en het Command Centre in Alicante van communicatielijnen naar de andere 12 gaststeden over de hele wereld. ‘s Werelds langste en zwaarste professionele sportevenement begon in Alicante en zal acht maanden later finishen in Den Haag.

Voorafgaand aan het hijsen van de startvlag, zei Jordi Neves, Chief Digital Officer van de Volvo Ocean Race: “Meer dan vier decennia lang heeft de Volvo Ocean Race enkele van de beste zeilers bijeengebracht. Deze editie van de race is digitaler dan voorheen, met HCL als strategische IT-partner. Deze editie is ook speciaal voor ons, omdat we voor het eerste een Duurzaamheidsprogramma hebben in samenwerking met het VN-programma Environment Clean Seas, om te laten zien dat we geven om gezonde zeeën. ALICANTE, Spain–(BUSINESS WIRE)– The 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race was flagged off at Alicante, Spain, with HCL Technologies as the strategic IT services provider. The leading global IT services company has provided end-to-end infrastructure support as well as connectivity between the Race Village and the Command Centre in Alicante further connecting them to 12 Host Cities on the race route globally. The world’s longest and toughest professional sporting event began at Alicante and will finish eight months later at The Hague.

The 2017-18 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race comprises teams including team AkzoNobel, DongFeng Race Team, MAPFRE, Vestas 11th Hour Racing, Sun Hung Kai Scallywag, Turn The Tide on Plastic and Team Brunel. This edition of the race features three times as many Southern Ocean miles (12,000 nautical miles) than its previous edition and will end in The Hague by June’2018.
