Burjeel Medical City in de VAE voert met succes zijn eerste niertransplantatie uit

ABU DHABI, Verenigde Arabische Emiraten–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Burjeel Medical City (BMC) is begonnen met het uitvoeren van niertransplantaties en biedt lokale en internationale patiënten de mogelijkheid om niertransplantaties te ondergaan in privéziekenhuizen in Abu Dhabi in de VAE. De eerste dergelijke transplantatie werd met succes uitgevoerd bij een patiënt uit Kazachstan in BMC, een quartair gezondheidscentrum van uitmuntendheid onder Burjeel Holdings.

De patiënt had eindstadium nierfalen en onderging dialyse sinds maart 2022. “De patiënt was fysiek fit en had geen andere contra-indicaties. De operatie werd uitgevoerd nadat zowel de patiënt als de donor (de neef van de patiënt) grondige evaluaties hadden ondergaan en geschikt werden bevonden voor de procedure”, zegt Dr. Rehan Saif, directeur – Transplant Surgery, BMC.

The first such transplantation was successfully performed on a patient from Kazakhstan at BMC, a quaternary healthcare center of excellence under Burjeel Holdings.

The patient had end-stage renal failure and was undergoing dialysis since March 2022. “The patient was physically fit and did not have other contraindications. The surgery was conducted after both the patient and the donor (the patient’s nephew) underwent thorough evaluations and were deemed fit for the procedure,” said Dr. Rehan Saif, Director – Transplant Surgery, BMC.

The donor surgery was performed using the latest 3D laparoscopic technology, a minimally invasive method meant to improve donor safety. After the donor surgery was completed in four hours, the back bench preparation of the graft took 45 minutes. The recipient surgery was completed in four hours. According to the medical team, both the patient and the donor are recovering well.
