A week after the final day of the Tour de France, stars on the scene will be setting off at Hanover’s “Night”, the traditional cycling classic along Friedrichswall Avenue, right in front of the city hall along the spectacular hot dog route, for a nocturnal round of cycling. At the same venue just a few hours later, on the premiere of the “ProAm – Your Day”, cyclists in the “Everyman” category will begin their 69-km or 113-km race through the city and region of Hanover.

Hans Christian Nolte, MD of Hannover Marketing & Tourismus GmbH, explains: “We’re a sporty city and play various sports in the upper leagues. We want to make cycling a set fixture again on Hanover’s events calendar.”

Hanover triple cycling event

The professional cyclists will be sprinting along an 850-m circular course, competing for victory and placings. Qualifiers, a race for young talent and the ever-spectacular derny race will round off the event. International cycling stars feature in the long list of winners; after some exciting sprints during the Tour, André Greipel and Marcel Kittel challenged each other to a thrilling rematch in the heart of the city in 2016.

The following day, two cycling routes will round off Hanover’s “24-hour pure cycling” as part of the new “Everyman” race. The 67-km route through the city goes past several places of interest and follows a short winding circuit through the Hanover region. Special feature: e-bike riders will have an opportunity to take part. On the 113-km route through the region, the Deister and over the Nienstädter Pass, participants will face the challenge of climbing 280 meters in altitude at a gradient of 9.5%.

With ProAm, Hanover can look forward to a top-class cycling weekend for professionals and amateurs, which adds another highlight to the sporting calendar.
